State Emergency Service (SES) crews are sandbagging homes on the Atherton Tableland in far north Queensland as heavy rain continues to fall.

The Atherton region has recorded over a hundred millimetres of rain in the past 24 hours with some residents requesting sandbags.

Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) spokeswoman Joanne Thomson says she is expecting more jobs throughout the day.

"We've got a bit of rain up around the Tableland and the northern beaches [of Cairns] at the moment," she said.

"We've had a number of people requesting some sandbags and at Trinity Beach we've just taken care of a tree that's come down with the wind and the rain."
